Wednesday, September 22, 2010

Incase you already have a blog for example with an address such as yourname.blogspot.com. You might want to turn the URL from yourname.blogpsot.com to www.yourname.co.cc as it looks more professional. By the way it's free and easy . If you haven't create any blog account yet, you can go to any blog services to create an account such as www.blogger.com. It's free and you only need to spend a few minutes to complete the registration form in order to create your account. After you have created a blog account or if you already have one, straight away follow the steps below to begin the registration process at http://www.co.cc in order to get a free top level domain (i.e. www.example.co.cc).

Registration Process:
Type www.co.cc on your address to directly open the website or you can just type www.co.cc on the search bar and just click the link (www.co.cc) in the list of 'search found' in order to retreive and open the website. Once the website appears, clik on the text link "create an account now". Then make sure you fill in the required information and just follow all the simple steps to complete your registration process. Once you are back at the Setup page, just click on the tab button "Domain Settings". and then click on your domain which you have just created (i.e. www.example.co.cc). After that, click on the "Set up" button.

REMEMBER: Basically there are 3 types of settings provided in .co.cc. You can choose either one of the 3 types of settings below depending on your current platform or elements (i.e: blogger.com, self-hosting etc) which you are using.

1. Managed DNS
This method is not suitable for user who use blogger.com as it has its own default hosting. If you have a website and the website is not self hosted ( means your website is hosted by an outsite web hosting provider) this type of setting is appropriate for you. In order to use this setting, you must know the DNS server of the web hosting registrar that you are engaging with. An example of a Name server is something like this (ns1.hostname.com) or if you are hosting with 000webhost just fill in the field for Server name 1 as ns.01.000webhost.com and Name server 2 as ns02.000webhost.com.

***Setting up the Name Server with co.cc
>Domain Settings
> Manage domain
> Select a domain
> Click "setup" button
> Manage DNS
> Type in the Name server of your hosting registrar (Example: Server name 1 as ns.01.000webhost.com and Name server 2 as ns02.000webhost.com).
One more thing that you should not forget, after configuring Name server in co.cc, make sure you add your co.cc domain to the hosting registrar and if necessary configure zone records as well. Also take not that it might take up to 48 hours or more for name server changes to take effect and fully propagate through the Internet. That's all and you're done.

2. Zone records

This type of setting is suitable for users who register with blogger.com.

***Configuring the Zone records with .co.cc
>Domain Settings
> Manage domain
> Select a domain
> Click "setup" button
> Zone records

In this step, you need to do 2 things that is by creating a C NAME record for your blog's address ( i.e. www.example.co.cc ) and creating A NAME records for your your naked domain (i.e. example.co.cc).

****First create a C NAME
(Host name)
i.e. www.example.co.cc
(TTL)
1D
(Type/Priority)
CNAME
(Value)
ghs.google.com

(Note: Just follow exactly the inputs for TTL, Type/Priority and Value except the Host name as Host name is according to what you have set previously).

****Create A NAME records
In this step you will create four separate A records which you will be doing it from the same control panel you accessed your CNAME records.

Host Name: (Type in your naked domain without the 'www' (i.e. example.co.cc)
TTL: 1D
Priority/Value: A

Then point your naked domain (i.e. example.co.cc) to each of the following IP Addresses untill you have four separate A records.

216.239.32.21
216.239.34.21
216.239.36.21
216.239.38.21

3. URL Forwarding
This type of setting can be a bit cliche as many people use this type of method as it the most easiest one A.K.A 'easy-peasy'. Either you have a web hosted by a web hosting provider or a blog created with blogger.com it doesn't matter as it applies to any of them.

***Configuring the URL Forwarding with .co.cc
>Domain Settings
> Manage domain
> Select a domain
> Click "setup" button
> URL Forwarding
The page will look something like this below;

Make sure to enter the title of your page and just leave the Frame "URL Hiding" as it is, so it won't show your original blog address (yourname.blogspot.com). You can add description and key words to enable the viewers to search your web or blog in the internet a bit easier. When that's done, just click on the "Set up " button and logout. That's all.

Just go to the address bar and just type www.yourname.co.cc and test to see if it works as it should be.
